materiality is a huge thing in where i work at. we seek to ensure that financial statements are free from material misstatements. that was the business we thought we were dealing in.

two years into audit, i was taught to interpret materiality differently. materiality defines the scoping of our work and our tolerable threshold for misstatements. it could be an avenue to justify shortcuts, beat the timelines, and overlook errors.
